School’s Out – Pack Your Summer Calendar With Activities
Summer vacation is just around the corner! Excited school children and their families will be eager to make the most of the much-anticipated summer days. Most have had a confusing school year with the possible situation of both in-person or remote learning and will be beyond ready to embrace the sunshine and fun that summer brings. Pack your summer calendar with outdoor activities to make the most of great weather and summer fun!
Great outdoor activities to add to your summer fun:
Park Play
Parks and playgrounds will indeed be busy locations this summer! Keep an eye for enthusiastic children at play as they reconnect with their family and friends. Municipal and Provincial parks are great, no-to-low-cost locations to stretch your legs after a lengthy trip in the car or an ideal meeting place for a packed picnic or barbeque. Pandemic delayed road trips with family, friends and sports teams will be back on the calendar and our municipal and provincial parks are an ideal meeting point to reconnect with those seen virtually during the pandemic, offering plenty of room to run and be a kid.
Explore a Nature Trail
Sunny days are ideal for nature hikes and bird watching. Pack a hat, sunscreen and a reusable bottle of water to stay hydrated. Create a checklist for common bird species in your locale. Learn their calls and songs to recognize when they’re in the area. Nature is amazing, restorative and waiting for you.
Host a Backyard Camp Out
Gather blankets, a tent and the perfect weather. Summer is a great time to relax, unwind and relax. A backyard camp out is a safe and comfortable way to introduce youngsters to the enjoyment of the great outdoors. Perhaps include an outdoor cook out for some late-night snacks – spider dogs and campfire banana splits are always a crowd favourite. Extend the evening by watching a movie outdoors, under the stars to linger and enjoy the warm summer nights.
Be certain to fully extinguish any backyard fires and properly dispose of ash to prevent any damage to your property from combustible material igniting unintentionally. Always check your local bylaws for campfire regulations.
