WINMAR® Bands Together with the Community to Come Through for Olympic Athletes
Helping Communities Across Canada Through Difficult Times
The WINMAR® Property Restoration Specialists teams across Canada work hard every day to help Canadians overcome challenges with optimism and confidence. From storms and weather events to fires, our teams are always there to help Canadian property owners through challenging times. So, it only makes sense for us to pursue that goal as a cross-Canada organization in any way we can.
In addition to our continuous support of the Salvation Army in Canada, we enjoy helping athletes overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams. Recently, we had the opportunity to do that in a very concrete way.
Coming Together to Support Canadian Athletes
COVID-19 restrictions have made training difficult for Olympic athletes in Ontario. Many gyms and training facilities have closed their doors. Typical training facilities such as Western University’s Thompson Arena have been closed to the public, with only students having access.
This has left Canadian athletes, like Damian Warner, without anywhere to prepare for the delayed 2020 Olympics, which will be held in Tokyo in 2021. Warner, a decathlete competitor who won bronze in the 2016 Summer Olympics, had only nine months to prepare, and the clock was ticking.
In the spirit of community, local people, businesses, and governments stepped up to help bring a training facility together so that athletes like Warner would have somewhere to train.
The City of London allowed Warner and his team to use one half of Farquharson Arena, which had been closed for the winter season due to small change rooms that didn’t allow for physical distancing.
Bringing It All Together
Western University loaned some of their outdoor equipment to the athletes for their makeshift training centre, and WINMAR® Property Restoration Specialists was proud to step up to offer manpower and equipment for the move to the new location.
Meanwhile, Southside Group provided sand for a long jump pit and a forklift to help move the equipment. Athletics Canada donated a track for the athletes.
It’s not a perfect setup, but Warner and his team think it’s enough to get ready for the 2020 Olympics. They thanked WINMAR® Property Restoration Specialists and the London community for coming together on such short notice to create a space for them to train.
Supporting the Canadian Hockey League & Athletes Across Canada
WINMAR® is proud to lend a helping hand to Canadian athletes who are working hard to achieve significant goals. We support the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) by sponsoring CHL Sunday Spotlights, which highlight the achievements and lives of Canadian hockey players.
A recent spotlight featured Quebec Remparts player James Malatesta, and another interview featured record-setting Saginaw Spirit player Cole Perfetti.
These interviews give players a chance for recognition, while also providing essential funding for teams and players.
